John S. Hardy
John brings many years of writing, producing and filmmaking experience to his position with Cranch-Hardy & Associates.
After receiving his B.A. from LSU in 1970, John was employed by several Baton Rouge advertising agencies before moving to England in 1973. There he attended the London Film School, earning an equivalent Masters degree in motion picture production two years later. From 1975 to 1978, he was a Los Angeles-based film and commercial producer. He returned to Baton Rouge in 1979 to join the firm he co-owns with Sonny Cranch.
In 1988, Cranch-Hardy & Associates was hired to secure John’s services as co-producer of sex, lies & videotape, which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. He later produced the film King of the Hill for Universal Pictures, which was chosen for the main competition at Cannes and was listed among the ten best films of 1993 by 23 publications including Time Magazine and USA Today. In 1998, he produced the film Out of Sight for Universal, followed by Erin Brockovich , Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12and, most recently, In the Electric Mist with Tommy Lee Jones. John has been named one of America’s “Top 50 Producers” by Millimeter magazine.
As owner and head of the agency’s motion picture production division, he is an exceptional writer and producer who has gained an international reputation for both his creativity and production management capabilities.
